Fernkloof Nature Reserve — 1 800 hectares of fynbos above Hermanus, home to over 1 250 species, a third found nowhere else on Earth.

About this experience

Two unhurried hours on the gentle lower slopes of Fernkloof Nature Reserve. Your botanist guide names and tells the story of the Cape Floral Kingdom species you pass — the smallest and most diverse of the world's six floral kingdoms, and almost entirely endemic to this corner of the planet.

Fernkloof is the heart of Hermanus's quiet conservation pride: 1 800 hectares above the town containing over 1 250 fynbos species, a third of which appear nowhere else on Earth. Sugarbirds, sunbirds and the occasional klipspringer share the slopes; on a clear day you can see the whales blowing in Walker Bay below.
